Microsoft outlines Windows 7 anti-piracy measures

One of the things that I see as a lost cause is Microsoft’s attempts at anti-piracy.  It seems that everytime they come up with a new measure to fight this it just backfires.  An article on pcauthority.com.au talks about the new anti-piracy measures.

Microsoft has announced that the forthcoming Windows 7 operating system will contain a number of piracy ‘tweaks’ designed to protect its own interests and those of its customers

I think that Microsoft needs to focus more on what will make the user experience and workflow better rather than try to hinder it and make it more convoluted.  Joe Williams, general manager for Worldwide Genuine Windows at Microsoft states:

“Consumers face potential identity theft, system failures and unrecoverable data loss,” he said. “Market research firm IDC pegs the cost of compromised data in business environments at tens of thousands of dollars per incident.”

What this has to do with anti-piracy is totally beyond me.  Check out the article here:

Windows 7 Release Candidate Customer Preview Program

Looks like Microsoft is going to let the public do there testing “officially” instead of indirectly now.

Something that caught my eye on the page:

You don’t need to rush to get the RC. The RC will be available at least through July 2009 and we’re not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.
